Fashion Idol of the Week- Jessie
This week’s fashion idol is Jessie – tall, beautiful and super stylish. Now, I hold a special place in my heart for Jessie. Why you may ask? Well…she not only shares similar interests in fashion, but she also happens to live in Toronto, which is quite rare. What I appreciate the most about Jessie’s style is her approach to outfit combos- totally unique, original and inspiring. Check out her fab interview and then bookmark her awesome blog, My Delusional Mind which makes for a great read when you’re cramped in your cubicle, or just looking for a light read on everyone’s favourite subject: fashion.

The Interview
1. Name, Age, Location
Jessie, 26, Toronto
2. Is our mind really that delusional? And why did you pick that as
the name for your blog?
My friends and family have always said I live in my own little
world not really caring what others think of me or the crazy things I
do. Which I guess is meant to be a compliment but makes me wonder if I
might be a tad delusional. So when I started the blog I wanted the
experience to be like stepping into my little world. Thus the name my
delusional mind. I originally wanted confessions of a delusional mind,
but that was a tad long.
3. What got you into the blogosphere?
For better or worse, I’ve always had my own way of dressing and
putting things together and I wanted to share that. I also wanted to
share the things that inspire me. Most of my friends are not as into
fashion as I am, so the blog has been a way to get it all out of my
system.
4.I’ve noticed how you love accessorizing your outfits, especially
with hats. Where does your love for hats come from?
My love of hats goes waaaay back to when I was little. My mom and
grandma wore (and still wear) these crazy amazing hats to church.
Usually heavily embellished and decorated or just really dramatic
shapes (think Phillip Treacy and you can get an idea). I would always
sneak into my mom’s closet, pile them on the floor and try them
on..much to her horror! I think more people should wear hats, they are
such a simple addition that really make an outfit special and uniquely
yours…and they also are great for bad hair days…which I have a
lot of!
5. Since you live in Toronto, I just have to ask your favorite/secret
shopping destinations? Please share…
Actually I find shopping in Toronto fairly expensive (I’m
originally from the States) so I save a lot of my shopping for trips
back home. However, the best deals I’ve scored have been from the Holt
Renfrew outlet in Vaughn Mills (definitely worth the drive out there).
And for unique items my spot is this little vintage store on Queen
West and Bathurst. Is it wrong that I don’t even know the name of it?
I always stop there because they have a clothing rack outside that is
always tempting (I swear I’ll find out the name for you!).
6. Do you see fashion anywhere in your future?
I definitely see fashion in my future. I’ve got a few tricks up my
sleeve that I can’t talk about yet, so keep your fingers crossed and
your ears open!
7. How would you describe your style in one sentence?
Hmmm, this is difficult. In a sentence my style right now is an
experiment with textures, proportion, and palate.
8. Who is your favourite designer and why?
Keep in mind these changes as my style evolves. Right now it would
have to be Rick Owens. I love the shapes and silhouette that he is
putting out there. He is doing amazing things with materials and
proportions. Those alpaca embroidered jackets for F/W 09, and don’t
even get my started on the way he uses fur in his Palais Royal line.
Incredible!
9. Vintage vs. New? What do you prefer and why?
Definitely vintage. Thanks to my mom and grandma, I’ve been going
to thrift stores since I could walk…long before it was cool! And
nothing beats the feeling of finding a vintage treasure amid the racks
of random stuff.
10. Please share some words of wisdom with LaMimi readers.
Fashion right now is so fast paced and there is so much stuff out
there. It may take of bit of searching and sifting, but find what
speaks to you and wear it confidently. I can’t think of anything more
chic than self-confidence!
