Fashion Idol of the Week- The Stylish Wanderer
This week’s fashion idol is the one and only Stylish Wanderer. I was extremely excited about interviewing the extremely stylish 14 year-old who hails from LA. Her blog opened up tons of opportunities for her, like modeling in the latest Who What Wear editorial, attending New York Fashion Week and much more.
Awestruck? You should be, but just remember that anything fab can happen to you too. Stylish Wanderer can dress up like an elegant movie star, or dress down like a rocker girl. The unwavering factor in it all? Her love for fashion. Take a look at what she had to say to us, and then head on over to her lovely blog.

the Interview
Name, age, location
The Stylish Wanderer, 14, Los Angeles
Now that I’ve discovered your blog, I check it almost daily to witness the beautiful ensembles you put together. What triggers your outfit choices?
If it’s pretty, glamorous, and fits my body or something I haven’t really seen before, I’ll want to wear it and own it immediately. Though, I’ve recently discovered that even if I like something it doesn’t mean that I actually want to wear it. I love the whole simplistic/austere chic look, but I don’t think it would look good on me, I would never put it on. I’m still discovering my style though.
Has the speed and scale of your success in the blogosphere surprised you?
The opportunities and everything that comes from it has been such a lovely gift. I’ve worked hard on it though. It requires a lot of hours of work and I’m growing everyday! It’s so cool, the people are so nice, and generally everyone in the blogosphere is very passionate about what they are talking and writing about.
On your blog you quote Meryl Streep -”I feel very strongly that we make decisions about what we’re giving to the world, what we’re withholding from the world, by virtue of what we put on our bodies and what we choose to say or not to say.” What are you trying to communicate to the world with your style?
I’m having fun, I care about what I wear, and I’d like to be your friend! Ha-ha. At least that’s what I think. Truthfully I don’t really think about it, because maybe if you think too hard about it, then it will seem contrived or something. I don’t know. It’s not calculated. My style is kind of all over the place. I really just wear what I think is beautiful, and hope people like it. My motto is: “there is bound to be one person out there who likes it, right?”
You were recently featured on the WhoWhatWear fashion editorial. Do spill details! How was the experience for you?
Oh, so great! The girls, Karla, Geri, and Krystal were so much fun. Krystal and I bonded over our matching hair + bangs, Karla showed us her new scorpion tattoo, and Geri told me all about her Lucky Mag feature! The WhoWhatWear women were so awesome, Justin Coit was the best photographer ever and it was one of my most favorite things about this past year. Id love to do that kind of all the time!
Define a well dressed woman…
Being well-dressed goes beyond what your wearing. Its a lot about how your present yourself to the world. This well dressed woman can look good in almost anything because she believes in herself in a non-narcissistic way. Little black dresses are always a way to be well-dressed though.
Name 3 fall trends you are just craving to try.
Leather shorts, glamour, and tweed jackets with long feminine dresses.
Do you have any future career plans that include fashion?
At this moment, I don’t really think so. Fashion is just a hobby, however I hope to have a career in the arts.
Please share some words of wisdom with La Mimi readers…
GIRLS (and GUYS!) have fun, be happy, enjoy little pretty things you see at Goodwill or at the flea market or sigh at beautiful Prada handbags! Try doing a DIY one day, talk to your friend about the arts, and wear what you want to! I believe ANYTHING can be achieved if you work at it, so maybe if you currently don’t like your style, pick up a couple of magazines, rip out pages and images you like, put it on your wall or in a notebook, make lists of what you are currently into, and no matter what you want, never give up!
