Fashion Idol of the Week- Emily

I’m very happy to announce the first fashion idol of 2009- Emily Schuman. If you are not yet familiar with her savvy blog Cupcakes and Cashmere then you should probably go check it out as soon as you finish reading this interview. Emily’s divine blog is filled with everything from beauty and style inspirations to her personal adventures in beautiful sunny State of California and beyond. She is this weeks fashion idol not only for her great accomplishements such as landing a job at Teen Vogue and Domino the first day out of college but mainly due to her super elegant, feminine style.

2. What do you do for a living?

I work in online advertising.

3. Your favorite decade in fashion?

I adore the structural pieces from the 40’s and 50’s that celebrated a true woman’s silhouette. My closet is filled with little dresses from flea markets that are nipped in at the waist and tailored on top and I make them current with accessories like studded belts, layered necklaces and ankle booties.

4. Where do you draw your inspirations?

I’m inspired by women who are willing to push the boundaries a bit and wear pieces that are both flattering and somewhat unpredictable.

5. Favorite designers?

I currently love Phillip Lim for the incredible architecture of his clothing, Alexander McQueen’s body conscious skirts and Balmain’s ethereal and floaty dresses.

6. Favorite shopping destination?

Flea markets, TopShop, Intermix, H&M, Barney’s, Forever 21 and Shopbop.

7. What current trend are you loving the most?

I’m all about wearing tights with open toed platform wedges. It’s so great to be able to bring out my Summer shoe collection in January!

8. The style you most dislike?

I’m slightly turned off by the abundance of strappy sandals that more closely resemble stripper shoes than sexy stilettos.

9. Favorite shoe designer?

I’ll all about platforms right now and some of the designers that are coming out with some of my favorites are Cynthia Vincent, Marni and Guiseppe Zanotti.

10. Three words to describe your overall sense of style?

Colorful. Feminine. Classic.
