Fashion Idol of the Week- Christing

This week’s fashion idol is Christing- a girl with a sharp sense of style and a vibe of chic, class and sophistication. Her signature look- tight mini dress accessorized with colourful bangles and super killer heels. The moment I spotted Christing, I knew I had to add her to my ever evolving favourite list of hot bloggers. Take a look at what this 25 year old Londoner has to say about everything from falling in love with everything fashion at an early age to travelling and getting inspired by different cultures.  Then head on over to Fashion Hedonism blog.

La Mimi: Name, age, location
Christing, 25, London

La  Mimi: When did you fall in love with the fashion world?
Christing: I am very lucky to have an incredibly beautiful and stylish mother. She was unconventional, and slightly young when she had me, so I had the privilege of learning about fashion from her. One of my earliest fashion memories was sitting on the floor of her walk-in closet, at the age of 7, and watching her and my aunt trying on bright body con dresses, leather trousers, and Chanel handbags, styling each other and laughing. They both had ridiculous 80’s perms and model perfect bodies. I knew then that was what I wanted to be when I grew up.  I was entranced by all the colors, textures, and the way they were transformed from one outfit to the next.  She was never a typical soccer mom, always the one standing and cheering in skinny stone washed jeans, and a leather jacket, while the other moms sat in the bleachers and gossiped. She showed me the importance of style and confidence.

La Mimi: What is your favourite place to search for inspirations?
Christing: I find travelling infinitely inspiring. It is so interesting to witness the way fashion and trends can be interpreted differently by each culture. Customs and traditions can completely change the way someone wears a certain garment, or what fabrics and styles they choose.

La Mimi: What is the most treasured item in your wardrobe?
Christing: My Versace leather biker jacket. I’ve had it for years, and it has definitely gotten better with age. I also can’t live without my vintage fur coat in the winter, and my extremely comfortable, fringed, Wrangler ankle boots.

La Mimi: Your next must have purchase?
Christing: White jeans for the summer, and I’m currently craving a beaded, vintage minidress.

La Mimi: What do you splurge on?
Christing: It sounds cliched, but handbags. I love shoes, but I tend to wear them down really easily, so I feel slightly guilty spending $400, then ruining them on the dance floor. I am also a great believer in the perfect statement dress, and try to save for a designer dress that I think will be timeless each season. Hopefully I will have a daughter who will appreciate my slowly growing collection.

La Mimi: You do quite a lot of travelling, so what in your opinion is the most stylish city?
Christing: Paris for it’s chic sophistication. Women there all look effortlessly stylish, like they were born in Chanel. I also love Hong Kong for it’s diversity. Hong Kong is a city heavily influenced by both eastern and western cultures. The contrasting combination makes for amazing, and unique art, food, and of course style.

La Mimi: Your favourite shopping destination?
Christing: Topshop for quality affordable pieces. If I’m feeling uninspired, and have nothing to wear on a Friday night, I can find the perfect, affordable outfit within minutes. I love Selfridges for having everything I want under one roof, and I’m obsessed with Ebay for unexpected treasures.

La Mimi: What’s the best style advice you’ve gotten?
Christing: If you don’t feel comfortable in it, wear something else. The shoes may look amazing, but I would rather have a blast dancing all night, than sitting in the corner with sore feet.

La Mimi: Please share some words of wisdom with La Mimi readers…
Christing: Be yourself. Fashion should always be a personal expression. A combination of you, your inspirations, and ideas.

“If you don’t feel comfortable in it, wear something else.” Amen! After all, it’s about how the outfit makes you feel, and it should make you feel like your best possible self. Another great style icon as always, La Mimi.

I say why spend a lot on shoes and keep them hidden in the closet? YOu have the correct idea, wear your precious items. Don’t keep them hidden away.

So many people spend big bucks on a dress for a special occasion and only wear it once. I say spend the money on an item you will wear over and over again ;D

    Beautiful fashionable young lady!

WOWZA! She’s just Stunning!! And smart, cultured, wordly, fun and of course incredibly stylish! What an amazing choice for the FIOW (Fashion Idol of the Week) ;) I love her memory of her mother growing up, it’s extremely important to have a strong influence from someone like your mother, and she seems to be lucky to have had one stylish lady as her influence…. Also, I agree with Christing about her view on how amazing it is to view all kinds of fashion styles when you travel =)
