Fashion Idol of the Week- Lindsey Calla
This week’s fashion idol is beautiful Lindsey Calla from Saucy Glossie. I was extremely excited to interview Lindsey, because ever since I’ve discovered her blog, she has quickly gained a spot in my favourites. One look at Lindsey and you are hooked- her beauty, natural sense of style and the sunny presence she exudes is what has gained her countless worldwide readers. Take a look at what she had to say and then head on over to her amazing blog.

The Interview
La Mimi: Name, Age, Location
Lindsey Calla, 25, New York City/NJ
La Mimi: Please tell us a little bit about Saucy Glossie and how it all started.
Lindsey: Well …I used to be the Fashion Assistant at Cosmopolitan Magazine and then I left to go to Sydney for a few months. When I stepped away from work and the fast paced city life, I started to have more time to surf the web and started to take note of the changes that were happening with fashion and the internet. I really wanted to get involved in the conversation and offer my point of view. It started out as a blog about current fashion events and what was happening in the industry and then I grew it into something more personal by sharing personal style pictures and my experiences interviewing designers. I mix high and low when dressing and I wanted to show people how you can get runway trends on a budget. Now I’m addicted to it!
La Mimi: How did you first fall in love with fashion?
Lindsey: My mom tells me that when I was really young I used to insist on dressing myself for school and just pile whatever I wanted on. But once I was older, I became infatuated with fashion magazines and that’s when I really started to pay attention to trends, fashion, photography, etc. I loved Isabel Dupre and Peter Lindbergh. It was also the Sex and the City era where personal dressing was really hot and it inspired me to experiment more and not be afraid to be original.
La Mimi: Where do you see yourself in five years?
Lindsey: That’s a really interesting question because I always thought that I would be a magazine editor, but now things feel so different. I would love to keep growing the blog and I would love to do a lot more writing and styling. It would be amazing to write for WWD or even write a novel. I’m dying to research and write a historical fashion novel. I’m also starting to do video on my blog so I would love to do hosting.
La Mimi: You have a quote on your blog by Vince Lombardi : “There is only one way to succeed in anything, and that is to give it everything.” Would you say you give your 100 percent to everything you put your mind to?
Lindsey: Ha, that is the competitive athlete mentality in me. Yes, I definitely do or at least try to. I’m always really hard on myself and I set the bar high so sometimes I feel like I can never give enough. I guess that’s a blessing and a curse. When you are starting something that is so personal like a blog, it really is a reflection of yourself so I always find myself wanting to work on it all the time. There are no set hours; it just is always there to make better and improve.
La Mimi: Where and how do you get inspired?
Lindsey: I love travel and art history so I am always drawn to things that are inspired by either of those. Interviewing designers always gets me inspired because they all draw from so many different and amazing things that inspire them to create. Also, all of the information sharing online and watching what other girls are wearing is very inspiring. If I really need an inspiring pick me up, I’ll go to the Frick Museum or the Met and just wander. When putting outfits together or shopping, I sometimes reference the runways a lot and look at how designers and stylists put things together for the shows.
La Mimi: What are you into wearing these days?
Lindsey: Lately I’ve been really into platform wedges, harem pants, and my Sass & Bide Black Rats leggings. I’ve been wearing a lot of black, but come Spring I want to lighten up a little. I’ve also been living in faux fur jackets because it has been so cold out and they are so cozy and warm.
La Mimi: What are some spring trends you can’t wait to try?
Lindsey: Neutral and pale colors, cute high waisted shorts with bralettes and blazers, lots of socks, cross body satchels, and utilitarian separates like cargo jackets. I also want to try to rock some leather for spring too!
La Mimi: What goes through your mind when you put an outfit together?
Lindsey: It usually starts with how I’m feeling that day and where I’m going. I’ll start with a certain basic piece like a dress or a pair of pants then I’ll go from there. I’ll work my outfit around that one piece that will make me feel amazing that day. I love to over accessorize and I can’t really let anything stand alone. I love gold jewelry and belts so I’ll keep piling it on.
La Mimi: What’s the biggest lesson that life has taught you?
Lindsey: Take one day at a time and try not to look too far ahead. Stay focused on your goals and stay positive within yourself because the fashion industry is tough and you have to keep up your confidence.

I THINK LINDSEY CALLA IS TERRIFIC. I KNEW LINDSEY SINCE THE DAY SHE WAS BORN. I MAY BE RELATED TO HER AS HER ”AUNT DEWIE”.
WHEN WE WERE IN DISNEYWORLD YEARS AGO, SHE MAY HAVE BEEN 8 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME, I TALKED HER INTO TAKING A PICTURE WITH THE COSMOPOLITAN MAGAZINE AS HER BACKGROUND. LINDSEY WAS NERVOUS, SAID, NO, BUT DID IT.
SHE WAS BEAUTIFUL THEN.MORE BEAUTIFUL NOW.
LINDSEY’S AND I FAVORITE THING TO DO AS I WATCHED HER ”GROW UP”, WAS TO GO ”SHOPPING”.
I AM SO PROUD OF WHO SHE IS TODAY.
LOVE YA KIDDO
