Socks with Sandals, Yay or Nay?
Socks with Sandals, Yay or Nay?
What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of socks with shoes or sandals? One of the biggest fashion crimes? Riiight….
Frankly, I was always under the impression that socks and sandals make a tragic combo, and should never, EVER, under any circumstances be worn outside of the house! However, ever since Burberry’s Spring/Summer 09 collection, I had to admit it to myself, it did look pretty good. But that was just the beginning of it. Lately I’ve been seeing the trend emerge pretty much everywhere: catwalks, editorial magazines, red carpet, even on the street some fashion conscious ladies are proving that one of the “deadliest” combos can in fact look pretty cute and comfy.
I’m not yet convinced to try it on myself, because I just know I shouldn’t attempt certain things on a 5’5 frame but that doesn’t make me stop liking it.

What do you think? Would you wear socks with sandals or who knows maybe you already have?

Hmm maybe it’s like the spring version of the black opaque tights with peep-toe shoes trend? I think it depends on the type of sock, the style of shoe, and the build of the person. Tube socks and Teva sandals don’t work, and I don’t think the trouser sock would look very flattering on someone with shorter legs and thicker calves (i.e. me
). On the right person and done with the right pieces, though, it can be pretty cute.
I agree with Lisa it depends on the type of sock, the style of shoe, and the build of the person. Socks with Teva sandals maybe NAY for me. Peep toes with tights are OK!

I agree with Lisa and Janet Taylor. The build of the person, the type of hosiery used and the design of the shoe have to somplement each other. If done well its rather cute!
I agree with all the girls above.
Might be cute, but not on me….
Thank you for the comment about my hair, you’re right, my hairstylish is good (th 2nd best of the island)and he knows me well.
Have a nice day, gorgeous Mimi

Hi there-the models make it look effortlessly chic, not sure I could swing it though! Have a lovely weekend!
On the runway, I get it b/c it may be for effect but otherwise, I am still scratching my head about it
I personally could never wear socks with sandals, and have never seen a “real” person wear them, only models and celebs. But they can pull it off, but not so sure about the rest of us!
I like it!
I think with right socks it might work really well.
I think i am going to try this one this summer!
Hm. I used to hate it, and still think that white socks with sandals is a total crime, but black/opaque tights is a different story… I actually really like the fact that this is now acceptable in the fashion world because it means heels/skirts can be worn further into the cold winter!
And I live in Chicago =)
I think it works with one of two looks: sweet and girl, with vintage looking shoes and delicate socks, or touch with platform heels and coordinating socks. It looks really cool IMO- I just haven’t gotten the shoe/sock combo right yet
Yeah…no thanks! I’ve also been noticing it everywhere recently, and to me, just like the harem pants, it just doesn’t look attractive or appealing in any way or fashion… Maybe, just maybe…I can sort of like it on the girls on the runways, but that is about it. When I try to picture it on anyone shorter than 5’8″, to me, the first thing that comes to mind, is a pheasant / farm girl somewhere in rural Russia or someplace similar with milkmaid braids and some flowery dress…lol. That’s just me though…I think if you like it and feel comfortable wearing, go for it, regardless of what anybody thinks. You gotta do what makes you happy, after all! =)
Love it! I wore it last year and will do it again this year. Its way to long for it to become summer here, and I want to use my sandals. Great post!
tights maybe. socks I don’t like
Nay.. Never understood that concept!
YES! I am 100% in favor of the socks with sandals and shoes movement. Socks have been too long overshadowed by the shoes, hidden under our pants as though we are ashamed of them! It’s time for socks to get their time to shine!! :~)
I am a guy and I’d like to say that every time I see socks and sandals combo or hosiery with open toe shoes (especially nylons) on a girl that I otherwise already like, I think it’s the sexiest thing. And other guys agree but often are shy to admit it. We like seeing your toes of course but to be in public with exposed socks, stocking feet, it makes it very homely, sweet, sensual. I like that the woman is not to shy in sharing a detail that can never be really smooth (socks aren’t a finished product per se) and it is as if the woman is comfortable with us and shares something always hidden in the shoes and so intimate. I like it a lot.
I like the way you looked at that david. and I say if done the right way it can be very fashionable
;_;
I’m still scratching my head on this issue. For the most part, I don’t like it and I think that the coordinators could do a much better job. I can’t help but cringe if I see a beautiful formal gown worn with socks. The first poster does make a point in that it depends on what sort of sock is worn. I also agree that white (crew) socks is the enemy. Over all, I do not like it and there is a time when to and when not to wear socks (this is what athletic wear is for).
Tights and possibly over the knee socks look better when paired with sandals or formal shoes. Sharon rose mentioned that models could pull it off, but it’s really because they barely have a calf-muscle to show off. If you look at most young girls, you may notice that they don’t have many curves like the stick figured runway models of today, so wearing crew – knee highs look fine, cute even.
Most women have curves somewhere and wearing crew socks is very unflattering.
I am a offender of the knee socks and sandals fashion!I like this look a woman, but it draws looks and even laughs,I know!!Fashion need to keep fresh!
its very beautiful
