My “Carrie” necklace

Anyone who has ever watched Sex and the City knows about Carrie’s necklace. Firstly, because she wore it all the time and secondly, because there is a special story behind the necklace.
Carrie finds the necklace at a fair while she is shopping with Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte. The necklace is quite inexpensive, but she doesn’t really care, so she buys it. Anytime she wears the necklace, it brings back fun memories of her friendship with the girls.

When she moves to Paris with Aleksander Petrovsky , she realizes she lost her “Carrie necklace”. She tells him that although it cost nothing, the necklace is priceless to her. Aleksander, can’t really understand the significance of a necklace that can easily be replaced. So, he gets her a gift, and tells her that if she can’t have her Carrie necklace then the least he can do is give her a “necklace for Carrie.” – a diamond encrusted necklace (that is worth $ 55,000! That’s right! ). Carrie likes the present, however believes nothing can ever replace her original gold plated “Carrie Necklace”.

As she is waiting for Alexander Petrovsky at one of his events Carrie finds the necklace tucked into the ripped lining of her Dior clutch… No diamond necklace valued at $55,000 can replace Carrie’s necklace; we all knew that and so did she.

Aww…that was probably one of my favourite scenes from Sex and the City. She re-discovers her identity, which had merely gone hidden temporarily.

Needless to say when I received my very own nameplate necklace spelling my name in the lettering style of Carrie’s own, I was overjoyed to slip it on and have been wearing it ever since. I admit that when I wear it I feel like there’s a bit of Carrie’s spirit in me after all. Silly? Maybe…but that’s just me.

I loved reading this article! Like Becs, my “Carrie” necklace was also a gift from my parents one Christmas when I was just a kid. Although it’s a little too snug around the neck for me now, I still wear it from time to time for sentimental reasons.
