How to Pack Light

How to Pack Light

Picture this: You are leaving for a trip tomorrow – clothes and accessories are all over your room.  You were instructed to take only ONE suitcase with you and although it does look like a big suitcase somehow it only fits the 7 pairs of shoes you were planning to take with you.  How about the rest of the stuff?  “Oh my GOD!”   Anxiety attack!   “ What am I going to do?”

Haven’t we all been through this scenario? I know I have… At least a few times.  Of course we all want to looks fabulous, especially on a trip away. Think of all the pictures that you will be taking and the outfits you need to change. That’s why I had to learn how to minimize without compromising the “fabulousness factor”.

Since I’m leaving for a trip tonight, I thought I’d refresh my memory on the packing rules I’ve come up with a while ago to make sure I don’t go back to my old habits.

Here are the Rules:

Accessorizing is the key to packing light and maximizing the number of outfits out of the minimal amount of clothes that you have.

Only take neutral colored shoes, because they will go with any outfit, regardless of the colors.
Suggestions:
•    Black
•    White
•    Nude
•    Gold

I usually pack:

-1 pair of walking comfortable shoes, also in neutral color
-2 pair of heels (not including the heels that I travel in. Yes, I know I’m crazy, but believe it or not I actually feel more comfortable wearing heels.
- Lots of colourful scarves to jazz up the outfits
- Costume jewelry such as statement cuffs, necklaces, earrings, etc.
- straw fedora
- 1 clutch for the night

Clothes:
1 pair of jeans
3 pair of shorts
1 skirt (either in white,  grey or black, so it goes with everything)
2 pair of capris
1 vest
4 daytime tops (like t-shirts and tanks. They are super light and great for layering and accessorizing over them is easy)
3 dressy tops
4 dresses (they are light and make an easy outfit. Slip it on and Viola!)
2 pair of cardigans. (Great for layering)
1 bathing suit

So, based on the pictures, where do you think I’m going?  Take some wild guesses…
