Toronto Fashion Week SS10 Personal Review
The LG Toronto Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010 is over and it’s safe to conclude that it was a success. Well…whatever meaning you give to that word. You see, for me Toronto Fashion Week is like an art gallery- you go there to enjoy art , not necessarily judge the collections or try to read too much into it. Which I did- profoundly. I enjoyed all the shows I attended- some beautiful, some quirky, others plain strange, however, it doesn’t really matter whether I like it or not, because fashion is a form of entertainment and every show has its own target market. Let’s be honest, the only Fashion Weeks that really influence what is sold mainstream all over the world can first be found on the runways of Paris, Milano, London or New York. Everywhere else in the world- it’s more for fun and entertainment.
It was a sheer pleasure and amusement to watch people at Toronto Fashion Week- The crowd was a mix of designers, media, sponsors, volunteers, celebrities, socialites and “the socialites wanna be” – who act all important and tell everyone they meet a different story of what they do- none of which is probably true. Everyone else was pretty cool and fun to hang out with. I had a pleasure of meeting some very talented and inspiring people like Stacey McKenzie and Jean-Marc Généreux. All in all it was a very interesting week full of new meetings and experiences.
Some lessons I learned: Most successful people are very humble, respectful, approachable and simply nice. Like Jeanne Beker from Fashion Television, who I was sitting beside at the Aime show. She was so sweet- no drama or impression of being all important.
It seems like the less important people are the more important they act and vice-versa. Attending Fashion Weeks doesn’t make you better in any way or more stylish. It just gives you an opportunity to experience fashion first hand and mingle with a very fashionable crowd.
Below are some pictures I took at TFW , as well as one of my favorite collections by Nada- It’s an exquisite collection with a great attention to details. I want all the accessories they used in the show! Loved it!
What are your thoughts on Fashion Weeks if you’ve had a chance to attend them or even if you haven’t? Do share…

I love the jewelry in the video and I see some very lovely pieces. What a great opportunity for you!
Ok, I had to leave another comment! That blue tutu dress is so adorable and is that you with the bangs? You are way too cute!
Awww….thank you Dina!
Mimi,
How cute are you! I love your bangs! So adorable! Great pics and review. How fun! I would love to do what you do!
Love your bangs!! The blue tutu dress is my fav!
In years past, fashion weeks were predominantly” for “the trade only” however, today they are entertainment and media events. Fashion Magazine

awesome!! I looove your posts!
I feel the same way about TFW, it’s fun and entertaining but not earth shattering. Sometimes I feel young designers rush out collections before they are ready too and that’s a pity…
I missed Friday night because of traffic… GTA gridlock…
Hi there-a fabulous post and its great you had the opportunity to be part of it all too!!
Awesome review, Mimi! I thought it was honest, genuine and came from the heart. I agree with you, that the more people are successful, the less they have the need to show off, or to prove anything to anybody.
I love the collection in the video…I would wear almost every single look! And your photos are simply adorable! xoxo
Fantastic–glad you got to do it!!
Mimi, you look gorg as usual! LOVE that dress with the silver chains on the shoulders. Where did you get it?!
Fabulous pics! And thanks for the personal review.
xo, Becs
