The Golden Globe Fashion Show
I was deeply disappointed with the Golden Globe’s this year. I am not talking about the craft of acting and how the awards were distributed. If you read my blog then you know I don’t really cover these topics, but what I’m talking about is how materialistic we have become as humans. Every interview on the red carpet would start with a question: “Who are you wearing?” “What are you wearing” “Who made your jewelry, how many carats? Who made your shoes, etc, etc”
Although I do love the fashion world with all my heart and soul, it was just too barbaric and painful to watch. Susan Serrenden even had a list in her hands and she started reading the names of all designers whose stuff she was wearing. To me it was not like watching the red carpet, rather celebrities advertising designers.
In the times of crisis, when people don’t have money to put food on their tables, all they did is brag about their designer clothes and jewelry. Back in the day the red carpets just weren’t like this. There was certain secrecy about celebrities and their styles, certain boundaries that the media didn’t cross. It wasn’t about who you wore, but rather HOW you wore it. I believe that great style doesn’t come with a designer name.
Please share your thoughts and opinions on the subject. I love reading your comments and discovering different points of views.
However, here are some of my favorite dressed celebrities from the Golden Globe:

We saw a lot of black dresses, nudes, gold and one sleeved dresses.

Hi there-I see your point, it is a whos who list, its all about the designers nowadays.
I totally know where you’re coming from, Mimi. But for me, it was just amusing to watch the whole Red Carpet Experience. I believe it’s not the celebrities fault at all, but rather this “Brand Name Circus” that the media has created & our society has nurtured over the years. I felt like all of those “stars” were merely following “the orders” set by our standards that we empose on them. They’re basically there to promote themselves, and since there is so much free press, designers figure they might as well get great publicity…so personally, I don’t get mad or upset, since it is all part of the game of show business..and it’s funny to watch…Great coverage though! I’m glad you didn’t go into bashing those stars who looked less-than-perfect (God Forbid!) like some of the other fashion blogs or websites! Kudos to you for that! =)
Yes, I know what you mean. I felt the same way when watchin it.
I agree, I kind of think it is disgusting. These celebrities, who can afford to pretty much buy whatever they want, get all of this stuff free from designers – even if they are borrowing it. The designers lend or give their items so the celebrities will mention them. But the celebrities are just mentioning them because the items were free. So the recommendation of the celebrity basically means nothing. I think the whole thing is just disgusting.
It just shows how materialistic the Western Society is. Celebrities have power that they can use in a better direction other then promoting designers.
I just get annoyed at all the stupid and similar questions asked and answerted over and over again….
Thanks Mimi. I love to write, especially creative stories like that one.
Thanks for the recap I was in bed with a head cold and fell asleep Sunday night without seeing the Golden Globes….
Mimi
I agree with you 100%, we should not be focusing on material elements to such an extent, but unfortunately there are so many people for whom this is a BUSINESS and that is what is really sad.
Anne Hathaway did look quite beautiful though and J lo’s dress had me crossing my fingers that she would have a oopsy moment – how did that bodice stay in place – duct tape haha.
Suzanne
hmm, Starting new year with Golden Globes worst dressed, that was not really expected.
darling i totally agree with you on its not what name/designer/how ever much the price is but its about how its worn. I too was disappointed with the outfits.I feel like no one took any risks you what I mean my sweet? It’s all been seen a million times. They all looked gorge but do I remember it today my love? No.
)
) in their own time.So you will get there too my sweet, till then dont even worry about it as you never know they might miss the freedom/independence you have now.Oh plus you get them to act as the guinea pigs and try it out first, whenever you get to that stage they get give you all the cool advice.
)
I think the issue is everyone is dressing to impress as opposed to wearing something just because it is them, you know when you find that dress that is simply you, that you’ve been hunting for all your life and never even knew it?
I feel like we are in era were stars all look like style wise … from Lindsay lohan to Mischa B to etc. they all dress alike and its weird as they are individuals,I think the awards in terms of the red carpet is WOW when individuals dress to suit them.
My sweet thank you for your awesome comment, you always ever so lovely. It always brings a smile to my face when i read your comments.
i love baby showers, your friend must be excited huh with the babay to be
My sweet I know what its like when it feels like all your friends are in a place/stage of their lives that your not sure you are resdy for quite yet. Just remember people get to varying stages in their lives, from marriage to babies(and the drama they bring
big kiss Mimi!

I agree with you on this one. But what young people don’t realize is that these celebrities don’t actually buy these dresses. And the reason they talk about the designers is because the designer loans them the dress in exchange for the advertisement (which they have to tell people about). There was a Canadian interview with Anna Paquin and she basically said this on camera.
Hey Mimi!
You’re right – WHO are you wearing is really a superficial question to ask. It disgusts me. In my opinion, it’s all about if your dress is pretty, even if it’s from Walmart, and not BY WHO it is.
Susan Sharandon really exaggerated a bit there. The sad point is that there are actually people who are interested in her reading out “who” she is wearing.
Back in the days, as you said, it was so much better. Back in the days of Old Hollywood glam. Back then, they also wouldn’t invite someone like Miley Cyrus to the Golden Globes. Nowadays really every starlet can get on to the red carpet so easily.
My favourite dress was Vanessa Hudgens’, in any case. I like that you didn’t write the designers
How are you doing? I’m glad I found the time to comment on your website once again, because during the week, I’m just so busy!! At the weekends, fortunately I’m not THAT busy.
Fortunately blogger hasn’t given me a hard time about uploading pictures again
Hi! Thanks for stopping by! Actually Japan is known for it’s high prices, especially in Tokyo – but somehow I managed to find some bargain places! My secret finds! =)
Hello…it is the entertaiment industry. What do you expect? To have lessons about how to live to your life by celebrities. No, I don’t think so, because if I’m an adult who deals with different things every day, I do the best I can with what I know, then, when I have free time to sit down, and enjoy a glass of wine, and watch the Golden Globes the last thing I want to do is thinking too much about what they say, or going through a “motivational speeches” giving by a celebrity. Certainly, I’m not going to pay attention about what Miley Cirus has to say about living a better life.
Take it like it is, pure and simple entertaiment, because we all know next year it will be the same, and we will be there watching it, but I hope with a clearer mind, and just to have fun, laugh, and make fun of the stupidities that Ryan Seacrest would say.
im not big on fashion as far as designers go but i do have that appreciation for a beautiful dress on a equally beautiful woman and i absolutely agree that we’ve become much too materialistic… who cares if your wearing this designer and that designer, i mean thanks for making such wonderful creations but its not like we can afford it or ever wear it so what should u advertize it to us for, plus it all goes back to vanity and how woman are treated as objects for advertizement rather than being asked about how are they and what plans they have for future acting gigs and so forth.
but to sum it all up i totally concur with you
