Interview with Fashion Stylist- Amy Lu
Anyone who’s remotely interested in Canadian Fashion , will instantly recognize the name of this talented and successful young woman. Amy Lu is one of Canada’s top freelance stylists, who began her journey as a stylist in 2001. Since then Amy has had the opportunity to work with top photographers, celebrities and styled for magazines like Vanity Fair, FASHION and Interview. Take notes as Amy Lu opens up and tells what it takes to be a successful stylist, shares great fashion tips and tells us a bit about her future goals.

La Mimi: Please tell La Mimi readers a little bit about your story and how you got into fashion styling?
Amy Lu: I have always been passionate about clothing and more specifically style. It is part of the first impression one makes- a peak inside your soul.
La Mimi: I know by personal experience that the fashion industry is a tough business to break into, what was your big break?
Amy Lu: There wasn’t one specific BIG BREAK, there were a whole bunch of little ones. Everything is also relative to where you are at in your career. I can remember being thrilled when I saw an advertisement for protein bars I styled in Chatelaine Magazine, now I have so much work out that it’s challenging to keep track of it all.
I suppose getting to style Vanity Fair very early on in my career was one of my biggest career blessings!
La Mimi: What would be your advice to girls starting out in the fashion industry?
Amy Lu: You have to want it more than all of the other people that also love clothes. It takes major passion, discipline, and consistent hard work.
La Mimi: How do you see your career evolve in the near future?
Amy Lu: The industry as a whole is changing because of reality TV and digital photography making fashion images so disposable. So, in the meantime I am going with the flow and working hard until I see what comes next. I would love to explore writing more, and also feel a move coming on soon.
La Mimi: If you could pick 3 fashion must-haves that every woman should own, what would they be?
Amy Lu: Great Jeans-it all depends on your curves but my present fav’s are J brand black skinnies.
Black Boots-I have about 20 pairs (not kidding) ankle, riding, heels, Ugg’s, dressy, casual… You can never have too many! My favorite are some 80′s inspired Sergio Rossi boots.
Sexy Lingerie-I am a huge Victoria Secret Fan. If my knickers aren’t cute, I don’t feel hot-it’s that simple.
La Mimi: What’s a great fashion tip that you can share with La Mimi readers?
Amy Lu: Wear what makes you feel good about yourself. You will look hot if you feel good, the opposite is also true.
La Mimi: What’s the most important lesson that life has taught you?
Amy Lu: You can do anything you wish if you are willing to put all of the energy it takes to manifest it. Life is beautiful!
