Cinch it like Shopaholic

Cinch it like Shopaholic

Today the Shopaholic movie was released and as a true fan of Sophie Kinsella’s books I was there to see it.

What can I tell you about the movie, without giving out too much? Well… it was exhilarating, fun, exciting and everything in between. I just wish it was longer to further develop the characters of the movie.

However, I’m not here to talk about the movie, rather the fashion in it.  The famous Patricia Fields styled the Shopaholic movie and like always any work of Patricia is worth a talk. The choices for Becky’s outfits were quite interesting, yet at the same time I have to admit I wasn’t too crazy about the over the top dressing. Nevertheless, I refuse to criticize Patricia’s work, because after seeing the movie I can see reasoning behind the costumes that harmoniously worked with the humorous scenes of the movie. Patricia used a lot of colors and shine in Becky’s outfits to make her stand out of the crowd- LITERALLY.

One consistent trend that stood out was the use of an often overlooked and underappreciated accessory. Patricia used Wide cinch belts  in almost every single outfit- over dresses, skirts, jackets, etc.  I love how flattering a cinch belt can be if used properly to instantly create an hour glass shape.

Here are some of Becky’s outfits:

    Mimi!

Firstly Happy V-Day (i assume its the right day over there) and if not oops ^_^ hehe

I havn’t seen this movie yet but have seen it plastered in a number of publications so there’s quite some hype around it. As for me? I don’t think i will only because i have no funds atm :( But i’m sure someone will, you know…illegally download somewhere and it’ll be passed around and then, you know…it’ll reach me sometime :P

Just a wee comment on Patricias choice. So bright and contrasting! But i suppose she is well known for her flamboyant choices? huh. I’d be too afraid that i’d look too ‘young’ for my age if you know what i mean ;)

    Hope you’ve been well!

    Luv always xoxo

Loved the movie & the over-the-top fashion! Of course, the movie doesn’t come close to really embarking on the amazing world of Rebecca Bloomwood… But that is a given – very rarely do books that have been turned into movies turn out better. There is just no way to transport the magic of words onto a screen. But yes, I did quite enjoy the movie nonetheless – it was fun, it was light but still carried out a message for all the people who could relate to the Shopoholisicm! (if there is such a word even! =))

I am so looking forward to see this movie! And these outfits seem interesting, even if I am not really into bright colours.

And you asked me how long I´ve been dancing. Well, I started dancing about one and half year ago. In my country it is tradition, in school year when you are sixteen, you start going to dancing lessons with your class. And after 10 lessons (teaching both- latin and standard dances, plus some others) you choose if you want to continue or don´t . I decided to continue :) .And I have just posted video of our Vienna waltz performance.
And yeah, salsa is very good dance, one of my favourite. Good choice, Mimi.

Hm, when somebody ask me st about dancing I can talk for houres. Sorry for boring you Mimi and you people too.

    :) Tereza

    Hi sweetie and lovely Mimi!!!!
Hope you had a fab Vday and that your weekend is being great.
    Thank you for your comment.
Sometimes what I racionalize and write is what I would like to feel emotionaly, so this thing of the relationship with myself it’s another story. (Right now I’m feeling down) well… off topic.

Well, I don’t know when I’m going to see this movie, but I surely would like to see it.
And I’m a belts lover so I see the belts being used with great joy.

    All my love

    xoxo

    Dear Mimi!
Awwww! It isn’t out here yet, but I can’t wait to see it! I loved the books too!
I thought the same about Patricia Fields’s outfits as you: sometimes I think it’s a bit over the top… Have you ever heard of Namie Amuro? [Probably not, haha... She's famous in Japan] Patricia Fields does a lot of work with her too.
You know, I’ve seen Kate Hudson in the coat that Becky’s wearing in the third picture!
After having watched that interesting video with Patricia Fields talking, I can’t wait even more for the film!!

Well, some friends phoned me up yesterday to ask whether I wanted to go to the cinema with them, but they wanted to see Twilight, and I didn’t really want to see that, so I didn’t go… I had a nice time anyway. Did you have a good time with your boyfriend?

    Hugs and Kisses,
    Cate

    Hi Mimi!
Cath and I saw this last night! I felt the same way you did at first about the over-the-top-ness of Becky’s outfits, but I also appreciate how they worked so well in the movie.
I really, really liked the (over-the-top again) anchor necklace Becky wears while she’s in Miami. Did you notice it? I would’ve shuddered if I saw it in a store, but that is the genius of Patricia Field- it looked awesome and like the beginning of another trend.
Thanks for visiting our blog, Mimi!
