Red Lipstick Myth

Red Lipstick Myth

One of the biggest misconceptions when it comes to makeup is that red lipstick cannot be worn by every woman. Ugh! It really saddens me to hear women proclaim that red lipstick is just not for them, well at least not in this lifetime. The truth ladies,  is that any woman can pull off red lipsticks as long as she wears the right shade of red and believe me there is a perfect shade for every single one of us.

Now you might be thinking:

This is just way too complicated and how do I find the right shade of red that’s just perfect for me?

The answer to that is pretty easy: just look in the mirror and examine your skin tone as well as the shape of your lips.

red-lipstick-mainIf you have thinner lips then the lighter shades of red will flatter your complexion and in contrast opt for darker shades of red if you have fuller lips.

Next step is to look at your skin tone. The easiest way to remember this is: “the darker your skin tone, the darker red you want to use.”

However, if we go into details then generally paler skin tones look better in Pink tones of red, Berry reds and plum tones.  Darker skin tones such as olive skin tone and darker look better in Orangey reds, brown based reds and golden reds.

What you ultimately want to achieve is a harmonious look that compliments your beauty and doesn’t scream RED LIPS. Therefore, I advise you to experiment with colors, until you find one that is just ideal for you.

One of my readers, Leyla has asked me to write on this topic, because to this day she hasn’t been able to discover that perfect shade of red lipstick, so she was hopelessly convinced that red is just not for her. Darling, I hope this article has been helpful to you and my other readers and you are ready to treat your lips to some sexy red hues.

What do you guys think of red lips? Do you shy away from the color OR is red lipstick your best make up friend?

Here are some of the celebrities that are known for sporting the red lips:

I have a red lipstick, but I hardly ever wear it. It’s somehow just too bright for me. I love dark red lipstick, almost purple lipstick though. Because it isn’t so bright, probably.
What do you think, are my lips fuller or thinner? I can never really decide on these things! In any case I prefer dark red lipstick.
I think dark red can look good on pale skin too, only then you appear even paler ;-) But it can look good!
IF I wear bright red lipstick, I only apply a leeeettle of it, because… I don’t know. I just feel awkward with lipstick ;-)

Yaah… Until now, school hasn’t been SO hard, we don’t have any exams yet… But I’m not looking forward to Monday, then I’ll have school until half past five. How’s your work going?

Glamorous. And sensual. And a good reason to remember how fabulous you are. Definitely a confident color. I think every girl should get dressed up & wear red lipstick, even just once.

I agree, red lips can be worn by anyone. They just have to give it a chance and not panic the moment the red is on.

    hi ladies,

I am of southeast asian descent and i have tried a lot of red lipsticks. The best one for me is RUBY WOO by MAC. it is vivid intense blue red and the color stays true for hours. JUst one caveat, it dries your lips. Since it is matte. But it is the best red lipstick I have ever tried.

I love the way you think this is a great article and I completely agree red lips work for anyone as long as they are confident and get the right shade of red. I love sporting red lips as much as possible.

Also I would recommend making sure it goes with what your wearing you never want your makeup to clash with your outfit I find it quite embarrassing when people are wearing makeup in bright vibrant shades that would look great if only they weren’t wearing completely clashing colors. I would love to see an article on that subject La mimi a lot of people might find it quite informative.

[...] Every woman should try wearing red lipstick. It’s so sexy and powerful that it would be a shame to live a life without trying it out. But remember that red lipstick is much like your favourite pair of jeans: one size does not fit all.  To pick a shade that best fits your complexion read this article I’ve posted a while ago – The Red Lipstick Myth. I was looking around for information on lipstick when I stumbled upon your page. Personally I’d like to add that I think it’s important for us fashion and beauty conscious individuals to keep up with the current trends as not to fall behind, being self aware of the best options available on the market is not easy, but as the saying goes, ‘beauty is pain’.
