How to Get Rid of Cellulite

One of my readers wrote to me last week asking me for advice on how to get rid of cellulite. She has purchased a vast amount of super expensive creams and lotions that promise to diminish cellulite and improve the elasticity of the skin, however show no or very insignificant result.  Since this topic is such a popular one amongst women, especially in the summer, I decided to research on it and share what I’ve found.

We would all be lying if we said we don’t know what cellulite is and that it doesn’t bother us a bit. The truth is that 90% of us women have cellulite, whether skinny or overweight, so nobody is really immune to it. Now, the question that we all have is whether there is something that we can do on our side to get rid of cellulite or at least decrease its appearance. I will attempt to answer these questions below. So read on.

Before treating Cellulite, we need to understand what it is…

Cellulite is excess fat cells that look like bulges and hollows, which give it that generally lumpy appearance.

Why do we get it?

Well…there could be a million reasons such as genetics, poor

nutrition, improper digestion, etc. However the main reason is the overload of toxins that are stored in the form of fat cells. Now, you are probably asking yourself:  What are toxins and why do I have them? Well…these days toxins are existent in a all of our junk food (and sometimes not only junk food) . In addition toxins can be released in your body due to stress or fatigue, which leads to greater stress and fatigue.  Juuust Great! I know…

no-junk-foodSo what can we do, realistically?

I’ve come up with some solutions that will help you decrease the appearance of cellulite based on my personal experience, research and testimonials of people I personally know.

DETOX

Number one reason for having cellulite is the fact that we have too much toxins. So the first step in treating the cellulite you have is to detoxify your body.

This means:

  • Steer away from salty, fatty and sugary food.
  • Avoid tobacco and alcohol use.
  • Instead of coffee and black tea, opt for herbal teas. Some of my favourites are green, jasmine, camomile, and blackcurrant.
  • No Junk food. And I mean it! Junk food is full of Trans fats and saturated fats which cannot be absorbed or flushed out of our bodies, because they are manmade fats that our bodies, don’t recognise. So where do they end up, once we’ve consumed them? Take a guess…That’s right… On our thighs and tummies in the form of cellulite. So, NO JUNK FOOD!

We should all:

  • Drink plenty of water. At least 8-10 glasses. I know it’s hard, but try to make it a habit.drink-water-to-get-rid-of-cellulite
  • Rely on fresh vegetables, fruit and whole grains as the main part of our daily diet-that’s the main secret in reducing cellulite.
  • Exercise regularly. And that could really be anything  you enjoy- yoga, pilates, dancing, jogging, etc, etc. Regular exercise is another home remedy which is very effective for the reduction of cellulite.
  • Massage your cellulite areas. It helps in increasing circulation and breaking the fat cells. You can use a body brush, a body wash or exfoliating product, while bathing, as these products also increase circulation.

Oooh… The dreaded topic! I like all the advice you provided… it makes total sense and I can testify and say that eating lots of fruit and veggies along with regular exercise DOES reduce cellulite 100%!! So ladies, don’t just complain, even though you probably can’t get rid off it completely, you can significantly reduce the appearance if you follow the above mentioned tips, which in my books is already great accomplishment! =)

GREAT!! This makes sooo much sense, and my mum who listens to my complains all the time.. She repeats almost the same advices. BUT do I listen =( NO .. I did it for less than a week and gave up..
I was very healthy; weighted 150 lbs, after losing my 20 lbs drinking green tea and that includes exercises (sometimes) I stopped losing weight or even noticing my celluliate is reducing.. NEVER!! Now, that I started exercising regularly. I will defenitly write down these advices till they actually stick in my mind, and just make them a habit..
I was patient enough to finally you posted this wonderful article! I needed it, as inspiration and motivation…

Mimichka, you are the best ;) ..

It is hard for me to give up sugar…But makes so much sense that toxins are the cause of it. Very informative article!

great article and so useful…I wont lie- I had this problem too and my best advise would be- drink as much water as possible (I´m lucky bcs I love water adn don´t have a problem with drinking it :) )

plus it may sound strange and funny, but what really helps too- when you sit at your computer desk- just pulling nates together= the sitting exercise :)

It’s just not true, that “toxins” are the main reason for cellulite. You can for example read the Wikipedia article about the reasons. Genetics play a dominant role. Of course it helps when you eat healthy, don’t smoke and excercise regularly to reduce cellulite. But it will never disappear magically because of that, if you have a hereditary handicap.

great article mimi!! :) big kiss

Yes, Maren….I agree with you…Genetics do play a significant role, however after I started following the above tips my cellulite has decreased SIGNIFICANTLY in appearance. So, although genetics might be the reason some of us have it, we still have control over this issue:)
    Good luck~ :)

It is ture. I just want to add fat cell can’t be broken up but can be reduce in size through exercise and better eating. When fat cells are skinnier then the apperance of cellulite and fat will reduce in size as well.

I think your advise was great! But not typically realistic for most women. We are really busy and dont have time to do a big kitchen clean out of junk food. This product that I found from a friend of mine told me that these “lipo pants” are the way to go. I found out that they really do melt away your cellulite off your tush and thighs.
This pants do not cost the same as your cellulite cream from Wal-Mart, but this product also doesn’t run out befor your cellulite is gone! These pants you can wear under your normal pants (also reduce the muffin top) and make you look sleek!
It’s amazing product I am so happy with the results and I know you will be too!
