How to Eliminate and Treat Puffy Eyes

I notice that the number of people, especially women, suffering from puffy eyes has increased in the last decade. It’s due to food companies adding more and more sodium (which is basically salt) to everything with eat. Just pick up a box of anything and look at the ingredients. I guarantee you it contains sodium. Once in a while, I also wake up with puffy eyes or even better- a puffy face. Now, let’s look at what exactly causes puffy eyes, how to treat, and prevent them from happening.

The main causes of puffy eyes are:
-    Sleeping on your face
-    Drinking anything, even water before you go to sleep can sometimes cause puffy eyes due to water storing itself in pouches under your eyes.
-    Crying
-    Lack of sleep
-    Eating salty food or drinking alcohol can make you retain fluids that get collected in the eye area.

How to treat this mini crisis:

-    Whatever you do, do not rub your eyes, as it will irritate them and make matters worse.

-    Apply cold compress on your closed eyes until it gets warm then dunk the washcloths in cold water and repeat it 4 -5 times. This method takes only five

minutes and works by draining the puffs under your eyes.
-    Eva Mendes gets puffy face quite often, so what she does is fill up a bowl with lots of ice and some witch hazel, and sticks her face in there for several times.

How to prevent these unpleasant incidents:

-    Cut down on your sodium intake. I know it’s going to be very difficult; however you cannot neglect yourself any longer. Start slowly by eliminating foods such as chip, pickles, pretzels and etc. Then slowly decrease your intake of salt. You should notice the difference within a month or so.
-    When sleeping, raise your head with pillows. That will keep fluids form pooling under your eyes.
-    Drink 8 glasses of water and get minimum 8 hours of sleep.
